  The United Nations as a Human Rights Organization   Introduction   The United Nations was created in 1945 to promote international peace and security and is essentially linked to the promotion of human rights.   The UN Charter, which is the foundational treaty of the United Nations highlights the importance of respecting human dignity, equality, and justice. Whereas the disregard and contempt for human rights have resulted in barbarous acts which have outraged the conscience of mankind, and the advent of a world in which human beings shall enjoy freedom of speech and belief and freedom from fear and want has been proclaimed as the highest aspiration of the common people.
